Secwépemc Stseptékwlls

The work at Qwelmínte Secwépemc is built upon the teachings found within the Secwépemc Stseptékwlls (oral tellings). These tellings, held since time immemorial and passed down through generations of our ancestors, inform us of who we are as Secwépemc. Stseptékwlls are inextricably linked to the land, Laws, and people of the Secwépemc Nation; Qwelmínte Secwépemc respects, and draws from these tellings to inform our path forward.

You will find a small collection of Stseptékwlls linked below.

the skÚ7pecen telling

The Skú7pecen (porcupine) telling is at the heart of Qwelminte Secwepemc. The telling serves as the foundation of reconciliation, informing how to Walk on Two Legs and come together as two people, to learn from each other and live as equals in peace and prosperity. Just as Sku7pecen does in his story, we must walk through the deep snows to bring together two groups of people and ways of knowing.
